Why is my IP location wrong?
City and coordinates are a vendor’s estimate, not GPS. Databases update on different days, so the same address can be two cities at once.
Wrong-location checker
Three free sources, side by side. MaxMind, IPinfo, IP2Location, DB-IP, and Google are linked below. This page does not query all of them. Correcting the database a product actually uses is what moves that product.
The sources that answered agree on the country, and on the city when they have one. Agreement is not accuracy.
| Source | Place | Coordinates | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Columbus, Ohio, United States | 39.96118, -82.99879 | The edge that served this request. Present only when you look up your own address. |
| ipwho.is | No data returned. | — | City-level free API. Commercial use is allowed; the free tier is 1,000 requests a day per calling address. |
| GeoJS | Columbus, Ohio, United States | 39.9587, -82.9987 | Comparison only. GeoJS uses MaxMind GeoLite. This site does not resell that database. |
| DB-IP | No data returned. | — | IP Geolocation by DB-IP, licensed CC BY 4.0 (https://db-ip.com, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). |
Each vendor builds a guess from registry country, routing, user reports, and geofeeds, and they refresh on different days. A shared mobile address, a VPN exit, or an anycast address should not be pinned to one house. If you operate the prefix, a public RFC 8805 geofeed is the fix that lasts. One-off forms are for a single stable address.
One-time location correction. MaxMind also asks network operators to publish an RFC 8805 geofeed. GeoJS uses MaxMind GeoLite, so this form is the correction path for that row.
IPinfo accepts a one-time correction or a geofeed. Many other sites buy this data.
Accepts a public geofeed URL or a pasted RFC 8805 block. ipapi.is says approved corrections show up in about four days.
IP2Location does not publish a separate correction wizard. Use the contact form, or email update@ip2location.com, with the address or prefix and the location you can vouch for.
DB-IP's FAQ says to use the report link on an address page, send a batch via the contact form, or publish a geofeed. Contact form: https://db-ip.com/contact/
Google’s “Report IP problems” form is for an address that makes Google products show the wrong country. Network operators can also submit an RFC 8805 geofeed at https://isp.google.com/geo_feed. A change can take weeks, and Google does not promise a city-level fix.
We query the free ipwho.is API. We could not find a public correction form. If a row is wrong, correct the upstream databases above; they feed many providers.
DB-IP results on this page are IP Geolocation by DB-IP, CC BY 4.0. The GeoJS row uses MaxMind GeoLite for comparison. This site does not resell that database.
