Frequently Asked Questions

What is an IP address?
An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique identifier assigned to every device connected to the internet. It's used to route data between your device and the websites or services you use. Your public IP is the one the rest of the internet sees — which is what this page shows.
What's the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 addresses look like 192.0.2.1 and use the older 32-bit format. IPv6 addresses look like 2001:db8::1 and use 128 bits — enough for every device on Earth many times over. Most modern networks are dual-stack. If only one is shown above, your network doesn't have the other configured.
What is an ASN?
An Autonomous System Number (ASN) identifies a network on the internet — usually an ISP, cloud provider, or large enterprise. Every public IP belongs to an ASN, which tells you who operates the network your traffic is flowing through. Click the Radar button to see traffic, security, and routing data for your network on Cloudflare Radar.
Why is my location approximate?
IP-based geolocation maps your IP to a general region using public network data — typically accurate to city or metro level. It does not use GPS and cannot pinpoint your exact address. The airport code shown is the nearest Cloudflare network hub routing your traffic, not necessarily your physical location.
Do you store my IP address?
No. This page reads your IP from the incoming connection and returns it to you — nothing is logged or stored. The page is served with strict no-cache headers, so every visit is a fresh lookup.
How do I hide my IP address?
Use a reputable VPN, the Tor Browser, or a proxy. These route your traffic through a different network so sites see that network's IP instead of yours. Note that your ISP will still see that you're connected to a VPN or Tor.
