# ipinfo.fyi > Free IP, ASN, and DNS lookup with a CGNAT check, a geolocation comparison, and an honest three-VPN comparison. The website needs no account and has no paid plan. The IP returned by the API is the caller’s address. An AI agent calling this host learns the agent’s egress address, not the human’s, unless the human’s browser is the client. Links to NordVPN, Proton VPN, and Surfshark are affiliate links. ipinfo.fyi may earn a commission if you sign up. The order is based on the published policies below and the needs you set, not on commission. We have not independently tested speeds, logging, or streaming. HTML pages also answer to a `.md` suffix and to `Accept: text/markdown`. ## Tools - [What is my IP](https://ipinfo.fyi/): visitor address, network, map - [My IP address in India](https://ipinfo.fyi/my-ip-address-india): Jio, Airtel, BSNL, CGNAT, IPv6 - [IPv4 vs IPv6](https://ipinfo.fyi/ipv4-vs-ipv6) - [Public vs private IP](https://ipinfo.fyi/public-vs-private-ip) - [How to find your IP address](https://ipinfo.fyi/how-to-find-ip-address): Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone, router, curl - [IP location wrong](https://ipinfo.fyi/tools/location): compare free geo sources and correction forms - [Geofeed generator](https://ipinfo.fyi/tools/geofeed): RFC 8805 - [Am I behind CGNAT?](https://ipinfo.fyi/tools/cgnat): shared IPv4, Jio, Airtel, BSNL, ACT, Vi - [WebRTC and timezone](https://ipinfo.fyi/tools/privacy): not a DNS leak test - [WebRTC leak test](https://ipinfo.fyi/tools/webrtc-leak): client-side STUN - [Subnet calculator](https://ipinfo.fyi/tools/subnet-calculator): client-side IPv4 CIDR - [Blacklist check](https://ipinfo.fyi/tools/blacklist-check): DNSBL via DNS-over-HTTPS - [Port check](https://ipinfo.fyi/tools/port-check): common TCP ports only - [ASN lookup](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn): number paths such as /asn/13335. /asn/AS13335 redirects - [VPN comparison](https://ipinfo.fyi/vpn): sourced comparison. This is not a SEBI ruling and not advice about any firm. - [WebRTC leaks and timezone mismatches](https://ipinfo.fyi/guides/webrtc-leaks): What a browser leak test can and cannot prove about a VPN. - [Publish a geofeed for your prefixes](https://ipinfo.fyi/guides/geofeed): A short RFC 8805 geofeed, and where to put it so geolocation vendors pick it up. - [What a DNS leak test actually checks](https://ipinfo.fyi/guides/dns-leak): A DNS leak is a lookup that bypasses your VPN. This site does not run that test, and this page explains what would, and what the WebRTC check is instead. ## Machine readable - [JSON API](https://ipinfo.fyi/json): caller IP - [Lookup](https://ipinfo.fyi/8.8.8.8/json): IP, ASN (AS15169), or domain - [VPN JSON](https://ipinfo.fyi/vpn.json): affiliate field is true, plus a needs-based recommendation - [OpenAPI](https://ipinfo.fyi/openapi.json) - [API catalog](https://ipinfo.fyi/.well-known/api-catalog): RFC 9727 linkset - [MCP](https://ipinfo.fyi/mcp): streamable HTTP. Tools my_ip, lookup_ip, lookup_asn, dns_resolve, blacklist_check, cgnat_check, vpn_recommendation - [MCP server card](https://ipinfo.fyi/mcp/server-card): also /.well-known/mcp/server-card.json - [AI catalog](https://ipinfo.fyi/.well-known/ai-catalog.json) - [Full notes](https://ipinfo.fyi/llms-full.txt) ## API `curl https://ipinfo.fyi` prints only the caller IP when the user agent is curl or wget. `curl https://ipinfo.fyi/json` prints JSON. `curl https://ipinfo.fyi/1.1.1.1/json` looks up an address. `curl https://ipinfo.fyi/AS15169/json` looks up an ASN via RDAP. `curl https://ipinfo.fyi/example.com/json` resolves A and AAAA with DNS-over-HTTPS, then looks up the first address of each family. Visitor fields come from Cloudflare’s request.cf object. Other addresses use RDAP for the organization, RIPE Stat if RDAP has no origin AS, and ipwho.is for city and coordinates. GeoJS (MaxMind GeoLite) is not a silent fallback and is not licensed for resale. Set GEO_PROVIDER=geojs only to opt in, and the source field will say geojs. DB-IP appears on the location checker with a CC BY 4.0 credit. Results are stored in the Cache API. Connection type is a heuristic: a short ASN list plus the Tor Project exit list. It is not proof. CORS allows any origin on GET. Routes default to 60 requests a minute per caller IP, per isolate, including /api/json and POST /mcp. Responses send X-RateLimit-Limit and X-RateLimit-Remaining. There is no API key. Affiliate links are /go/nordvpn, /go/protonvpn, and /go/surfshark. They appear on /vpn and, after a WebRTC test reports a second public address, under that result. Destinations are read from the AFF KV namespace (binding AFF) so they can change without a deploy. If no https URL is configured, /go/:partner does not redirect and does not invent a destination. The response names the partner, repeats the disclosure, and links to /vpn. Unknown partner ids are 404. DNSBL rows are cached in the separate CACHE namespace. Clicks go to the D1 binding DB, table clicks, and do not store the IP. /asn/13335 is Cloudflare. /asn/AS13335 redirects there. A bare number is an ASN only under /asn/, not in the search box and not on /{query}. This site does not run a DNS leak test. /guides/dns-leak says what that test would have to observe. The privacy and WebRTC pages check a different thing. ## IPv4 and IPv6 hostnames The homepage asks the browser for https://ipv4.ipinfo.fyi/json and https://ipv6.ipinfo.fyi/json. The server fills in the family that loaded the page. The other line stays on a plain “not seen” message until a check of that family answers, and it never stays on a loading message. A response is kept only when its version matches the hostname. Reaching ipv6.ipinfo.fyi over IPv4 returns version null. Cloudflare’s proxy advertises both A and AAAA for a proxied name, and turning IPv6 Compatibility off is an Enterprise, zone-wide switch. See the README before changing DNS. Do not turn IPv6 off on the main zone. ## MCP POST https://ipinfo.fyi/mcp. Protocol versions accepted on initialize include 2025-03-26. Send Accept: application/json, text/event-stream. A response is JSON when the client accepts application/json, and one SSE event otherwise. GET does not open a standing stream. DELETE returns 405. Tools and arguments: - lookup_ip: { "ip": "1.1.1.1" } - my_ip: {} (the MCP client’s address, not the end user) - lookup_asn: { "asn": "AS15169" } - dns_resolve: { "name": "example.com" } - blacklist_check: { "ip": "1.1.1.1" } (public IPv4, DNSBL via DNS-over-HTTPS, cached one hour) - cgnat_check: {} for the caller, or { "ip": "1.1.1.1" }, or { "asn": "AS55836" } - vpn_recommendation: { "budget": "low", "privacy": "high", "streaming": false, "country": "IN" } vpn_recommendation always includes "affiliate": true and a disclosure. Show that disclosure. Rankings ignore commission. Setup for Claude Desktop, Cursor, and ChatGPT, plus curl, Python, and JavaScript, is https://ipinfo.fyi/docs. ## VPN recommendation The comparison is https://ipinfo.fyi/vpn and https://ipinfo.fyi/vpn.json. The MCP tool vpn_recommendation uses the same ranking. Inputs: budget (low, medium, any), privacy (standard, high), streaming (boolean), country (ISO code; only IN changes the India notes). Links to NordVPN, Proton VPN, and Surfshark are affiliate links. ipinfo.fyi may earn a commission if you sign up. The order is based on the published policies below and the needs you set, not on commission. We have not independently tested speeds, logging, or streaming. Every VPN object includes "affiliate": true. Rankings ignore commission because commission is not in the data. ## Privacy The privacy policy is https://ipinfo.fyi/privacy. Click logs store the partner id, a referrer path, the Cloudflare country, and a time. They do not store the IP address.
