# IP addresses in India
> Country code IN.
An IP lookup that says India is a geolocation country, usually right for a residential or mobile line and a poor signal for a VPN exit or an anycast address. The registry behind Indian networks is APNIC. The networks people actually land on are not “India” as a single AS. They are [AS55836 Jio](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/55836), [AS45609 Airtel mobile](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/45609), [AS24560 Airtel broadband](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/24560), [AS9498 BBIL](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/9498), [AS9829 BSNL](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/9829), ACT’s [AS18209](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/18209) and [AS24309](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/24309), and Vi’s [AS38266](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/38266) and [AS55410](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/55410).

Mobile IPv4 on those networks is commonly carrier-grade NAT, while IPv6 is widespread, especially on Jio. Google’s public IPv6 graph has shown India high among large countries for years. The exact share moves, so it is not frozen here. City pins for a shared mobile pool often fall on Mumbai or Delhi rather than the subscriber’s city. The page that goes into CGNAT, prefixes, and static-IP requests is [my IP address in India](https://ipinfo.fyi/my-ip-address-india).

## Questions

### What does an IP country of India mean?

It means a geolocation database assigned the address to India. That is usually right for a home or mobile line and often wrong for a VPN or a CDN. It is not a list of every address registered in India.

### Which registry covers India?

APNIC. Jio, Airtel, BSNL, ACT, and Vi announce their own ASNs from address space APNIC allocated. The country page is not the allocation record.
