# IP addresses in Germany
> Country code DE.
Germany is a RIPE NCC country, and the retail ASNs are distinctive enough that the country code is the less interesting field. Deutsche Telekom is [AS3320](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/3320), Vodafone Germany [AS3209](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/3209), and O2/Telefónica [AS6805](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/6805). Unitymedia’s old footprint is Vodafone’s now, so a “Unitymedia” memory and a Vodafone ASN are not a contradiction.

Telekom’s consumer design is the part that trips people up. DS-Lite gives the line a native IPv6 prefix and puts IPv4 behind carrier-grade NAT. The public IPv4 on this site is then shared, while the IPv6 prefix is the stable handle. A geolocation city in Germany is often roughly right at Bundesland scale and is still not an address. If only the IPv4 city looks wrong, check whether you are comparing a shared DS-Lite address with a database pin that was never going to be a house.

## Questions

### What does an IP country of Germany mean?

A database placed the address in Germany. On Deutsche Telekom’s DS-Lite lines the IPv4 is shared and the IPv6 prefix is the one that identifies the connection.

### Which networks are common in Germany?

Deutsche Telekom AS3320, Vodafone AS3209, and O2/Telefónica AS6805 cover a large part of the retail market. The ASN on the connection is the one to read. The brand on an old bill can be a network Vodafone absorbed.
