# IP addresses in Brazil
> Country code BR.
Brazil is a LACNIC country. The large retail ASNs include Claro NXT [AS28573](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/28573), Telefônica Brasil (Vivo) [AS26599](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/26599), and TIM [AS26615](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/26615). [AS7738](https://ipinfo.fyi/asn/7738) is registered to V.tal, the wholesale fiber network that took over a large part of Oi’s infrastructure, so an “Oi” memory and a V.tal ASN can be the same line. A lookup that names Brazil and one of those networks is a normal consumer path. A lookup that names Brazil and a foreign cloud ASN is a server in São Paulo, not a household.

CGNAT is ordinary on Brazilian broadband, not an edge case, because the IPv4 pool could not cover the customer base. IPv6 is widely deployed by the same operators, so a line can have a usable IPv6 prefix and a shared IPv4 at the same time. Geolocation that says São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro is often the POP the database knows, particularly for a shared pool. Compare the router WAN address with the public address before you assume the city pin explains the connection.

## Questions

### What does an IP country of Brazil mean?

A database placed the address in Brazil. LACNIC is the registry. Claro, Vivo, and TIM operate large retail ASNs. AS7738 is V.tal, the wholesale network that absorbed much of Oi’s fiber.

### Is CGNAT common in Brazil?

Yes on consumer plans. IPv4 shortage pushed the large ISPs onto shared IPv4, with IPv6 alongside it on many of those same networks.
